The Borgias Title
Motion
The Borgias is centered on the life of Pope Alexander VI and his entourage during the early part of the 16th century in Rome. For the title, it was appropriate to evoke the sumptuousness of the papacy as well as to suggest the very human desires happening behind the scenes. I settled on Italian and Northern Renaissance paintings with their lush colors and gem-like quality of the paint. To unveil each image I engineered the use of track mattes which revealed each scene as if the painting was cracking and bleeding before our very eyes. Drips of blood and splatters of paint drive home the connection between art, power, and violence.
